Rachel KatzmanFarr
Chicago based artist Rachel KatzmanFarr has been drawing since she was able to hold a crayon. Having never trained formally in visual art, she attributes her only legitimate artistic training to the 8 years she spent standing nude in art classes across the Chicago land area. Choosing to focus her education on music, singing and Hebrew, Rachel pushed art to the side until January 2009 when she started MadamePlatypus, a line of sensual, detailed cards and prints and whimsical jewelry that she creates in her home studio.
Her art is often described as spiritual, humorous and empowering.
Balancing a career that is divided between visual art and music, Rachel has often found her creative worlds perfectly entwined, allowing her opportunities to write, perform and design with some of chicago’s most talented artists.
Both soulful and adventurous, Rachel channels an eclectic perspective into her art and music, appealing to a wide range of genres. Whether she is belting with a blues band, or gently finger picking an Israeli folk song on her guitar, her performance is authentic; infused with life experience and ingenuity. Although she loves collaboration she is also driven to recognize her singular vision as an artist and songwriter, leading her to curate, and participate in, numerous art festivals as well as record her first barebones, acoustic album.

I'm at Mustache Cafe in Logan Square for my fifth morning this week. I come here to draw, write and listen to amazing music.
I come here because, like alot of artists, I get alot more done out of the house.
This morning webdesigner/photographer Micheal Schacht and I listened to "Muddy Mississippi Waters: LIVE" as we finialized the details of
my website. I'm so happy to finally have it all come together. My Acoustic cd won't be done until this November/December, so as of now a couple of older recordings are holding up the fort. I hope everyone enjoys what they see and hear.
Thank You Gary for doing this for me, I love you and I'm grateful.
Thank You Mike for this beautiful, creative website and the lovely jewelry photos. (www.312elements.com)
Thanks You Sarah Scott and Joe Wetmore for the awesome performance pics. (www.sarahscottphotography.com)
